Description
The Boeing 720 is a narrow-bodied airliner and first jet liner produced by Boeing Commercial Airplane Division. The initial 720 first flew on November 23, 1959. Pan American (Pan Am) placed the first order for Boeing 707's and was the launch customer for passenger service with that aircraft. A total of 1,010 were manufactured in different variants until production stopped in 1979.Pan American World Airways was the principle and largest air carrier and unofficial overseas flag carrier of the United States from 1927 until the airline's collapse on 04 December, 1991. Pan Am had a total of 136 Boeing 707 variants and 720's in service from 1959 to 1981.
This Boeing 720B with registration number N783PA had its initial flight on 14 February 1961. It was delivered to Pan Am on 12 March 1964. It flew with Pan Am until July of 1973 when it was sold to Avianca Airlines. It ended its service career with SAM Columbia where it provided passenger service until it was ultimately scrapped (how very sad).
This Western Models 1:200 scale die-cast reproduction of this aircraft is a very rare, highly detailed, extremely difficult to find model. It has the beautiful Pan American graphics of the late 1960' and 1970's
. It has polished fuselage underside, leading and trailing edges of wings, and horizontal stabilizers. The
approximate dimensions are 8.50" long with a 8.00" wingspan
